List of podcasts I listen to

Podcasts are one of things you can love or hate. I personally love them, as I end up learning by osmosis – the headphones go on whilst I’m travelling and invariably I end up falling asleep listening to them too.

I have put together a list below of the podcasts I listen to as well as links for you to find out more info / subscribe.

Great podcasters that met and hang out with at OggCamp in Liverpool. These lads are sharing the knowledge and tips they are gaining as they go along as they do their jobs. Server, networking – it all seems to get covered off.

Brakeing Down Security

I don’t think any security podcast list should not have this show on it. Some shows are more technical than others and some are pure news abuse, but there is a good bounce between Bryan and Brian.  Both are walking the walk in infosec as they are experiencing much of what they are discussing when they are out on site.

Brilliant website with loads of resources, a bit like their podcasts. Really like their style and some great interviews also. Definitely check these guys out.

I’ve followed the @Wh1t3Rabbit since almost the first days on Twitter and Raf has a certain style !! Some days it’s a corporate podcast about enterprise security, some days the news is handled as a fed up infosec team feels about ‘yet another breach’ and then some days the entire podcast is irreverent and quite hilarious (I like those best!). He has worked at some of the largest infosec companies and it shows – his knowledge is extensive and the team on the podcast really challenge your ideas. I’d recommend this as a regular podcast as there is one recurring question that will challenge every vendor you meet from here on in …. “what is the problem you are trying to solve?” and when you hear them ask this question you realise the snake oil in our industry !

Forcepoint Podcast

I came across this podcast completely by accident but was glad to (previously the Raytheon|Websense podcast). Great podcast with little selling of the Forcepoint solutions. Look for episodes with Andy Settle and Carl Leonard.

Tech Weekly

Bit of an odd podcast by way that it isn’t a pure infosec podcast, it’s just a general tech podcast. It’s also a Guardian podcast and some people could read into the politics of, however, for me it is great to widen the horizons. There have been some really interesting episodes with a very broad spectrum of guests and gives a really interesting background to stories.

The Dick Turpin Roadshow

Ohhh how do I explain this one. We have two people running a fab Linux podcast that verges on downright insulting an entire industry, each part of it and everyone involved. Brilliant podcast that is on a little bit of a hiatus at the moment, but I would recommend listening to quite a few of those previous episodes. I really hope Matt and Pete get back on air…

The Infinite Monkey Cage

Hilarious scientific podcast based on the BBC Radio 4 comedy show. I love this podcast for some downtime. Generally the panel is Robert Ince, Brian Cox, a couple of scientists and a comedian – what more do you need when you are talking about background radiation of the universe !!

The Social-Engineer Podcast

For those with even a glib interest in Social Engineering then treat this podcast as your ‘how-to’ lecture series. For those new to it, start back at episode one and go through them all. Take notes (a lot of them) and learn. This is an amazing series and the guests are just amazing. Dreeke, FBI agents, radio DJs – the list seems endless! The banter between the team is brilliant and for transparency – I am a YES to Hornsby. Fabulous podcast and very on topic.

The Motoring Podcast

This is again a left-field podcast. Andrew and Alan talk about all things to do with the motoring industry, new releases, news. I find it a really engaging podcast and there is plenty of in-depth articles … Now if only they’d be able to get me a Tesla to try (and keep!!!).

Important Podcast Note :

As with everyone’s podcasts above … please, please, please – leave them feedback and give them kudos for the hard work they put into their shows.

HiddenText Podcast

THE BIG REVEAL : Yes, you heard it here first. I am going to be creating my own podcast to talk through the news I pick out as being important and my opinion on it. I’m aiming to make them only about 30 minutes long and I know the early ones will probably be awful, but let’s see how they go ! Wish me luck and let’s see how it goes !

So there we go, that’s my list … so what’s yours ? Send me a Tweet with your podcast list and let’s compare notes !
